This is the first time we’ve seen a product from JST Jodie, but it seemed quite popular in retail stores – so we picked one up to review, to show you how effective this pre workout is.

Claimed to promote:

  • Alertness
  • Concentration
  • Endurance

This is clearly a pre workout supplement that’s aimed to women, so let’s see whether this product is more beneficial to females (and whether it can compete with the best pre workouts on the market).

About The Company

RAGE 212 is made by Jodie Marsh’s company, JST Jodie – as you can see from the pink packaging, it’s clearly designed for women.

After taking a closer look at the company, we can confirm that all of JST Jodie’s supplements are aimed at women – but we don’t think women need specific supplements designed for them (the best pre workouts on the market will be equally beneficial to both males and females).

Anyway, let’s take a look at what’s inside RAGE 212…

The Ingredients and How They Work

JST Jodie’s RAGE 212 pre workout contains 6 main ingredients – we like that this company hasn’t filled their supplement with tons of unecessary ingredients, so this gets a thumbs up from us.

Not only that, JST Jodie have provided the exact dosages of each ingredient (meaning it’s free from proprietary blends, which is always a bonus).

This allows us to fully analyze how good this pre workout actually is. See for yourself:

Arginine 

Arginine is basically a gimmick in a pre workout – it’s shown to be ineffective in supplements due to its poor absorption rate (meaning its useless when orally supplemented).

But that doesn’t mean Arginine is completely useless; it plays a key role in your body to increase blood flow and enhance muscle pumps in the gym. As a result, your best option is to consume an ingredient that converts into Arginine in your body (which Citrulline does, but we’ll expand on this below).

Beta Alanine 

This molecule always splits opinions. In a nutshell, it’s shown to enhance muscular endurance in the gym – but here’s the problem: Beta Alanine also causes a side effect called paresthesia

What’s paresthesia? 

Paresthesia is a tingling sensation on the skin of your face, chest, hands, fingertips and toes – if you’ve experienced ‘pins and needles’ before, then this is very similar but for a longer period of time.

This side effect is often described as an ‘itch’ too, and is quite common after taking a pre workout due to most containing Beta Alanine. We don’t enjoy this side effect, so we choose to avoid pre workouts containing this ingredient – especially as Creatine Monohydrate offers the same benefit without the side effect.



Citrulline 

As we mentioned above, Citrulline converts into Arginine in your kidneys – which gets past Arginine’s issue of having a poor absorption rate.

However, studies have shown that Citrulline only works in dosages of at least 6,000mg per serving. Unfortunately, JST Jodie’s RAGE 212 only contains 750mg – meaning it won’t do much to improve your muscle pumps in the gym.

Caffeine 

Caffeine is the safest and most reliable stimulant available – it’s consumed in tea & coffee around the world on a daily basis, and everyone knows it boosts your energy.

Here’s how it works – Caffeine reduces the amount of adenosine in your brain (adenosine is the chemical responsible for making you feel less alert and more tired). As a result, you feel more awake and energetic after consuming Caffeine – studies have proven it to work, and you can’t argue against it.

However, the only problem is when companies add large dosages of Caffeine into their supplements – our general rule is staying below 200mg per serving in pre workouts (but if you’re tolerant, then 250-300mg should still be safe).

JST Jodie’s RAGE 212 contains 250mg Caffeine, so those sensitive to this stimulant should probably avoid this as they might experience jitters. However, those who regularly drink 3-4 cups of coffee per day will be safe.



Creatine Monohydrate 

Creatine is one of the most reliable ingredients in the supplements industry – it’s been around for decades, and was even used by olympic athletes in the 1990’s.

However, RAGE 212 only contains a tiny amount (200mg). We recommend consuming at least 1,000mg Creatine per serving to experience its benefits; increased strength and endurance in the gym – in a nutshell, Creatine has been underdosed in RAGE 212.

Taurine 

Taurine is mistakenly believed to boost energy levels in the gym; this is because energy drinks are known for containing this ingredient. However, studies have shown that Taurine has no effect on your energy levels.

But that doesn’t mean it’s useless – Taurine has proven to reduce cramping. This isn’t a key benefit, but it can be helpful in the gym (although keeping yourself hydrated can also reduce cramping).

In a nutshell, Taurine isn’t a key ingredient in any pre workout, but it’s a good ‘bonus’ to have. Personally, we would’ve preferred to see L-Carnitine instead, as it’s proven to reduce fatigue while being able to boost your focus in the gym (2 great benefits).

Side Effects

One of the good things about RAGE 212 is that it’s not likely to cause any side effects.

However, we’ll warn those that are sensitive to Caffeine to be careful with this pre workout; as we’ve mentioned, Caffeine can cause jitters and energy crashes – so our general rule is to stay under 200mg Caffeine per serving in pre workouts.

Pros and Cons

Pros: 

  • Contains Citrulline, which can enhance muscle pumps
  • Caffeine is the safest and best stimulant on the market

Cons:

  • Caffeine dosage is high for those sensitive (can cause jitters)
  • Creatine Monohydrate & Citrulline seriously underdosed (making them ineffective)
  • Arginine doesn’t work in supplements due to poor absorption rate
  • Missing key pre workout ingredients (such as L-Carnitine)

Review Conclusion

It’s refreshing to see a pre workout that doesn’t contain any proprietary blends – most on the market contain them. The problem with these blends is that companies can add ineffective dosages of ingredients without you knowing (so they can increase the price of their products).

However, this meant that we were able to take a full look at RAGE 212 – and unfortunately, JST Jodie has underdosed most ingredients inside. But again, we have to give them credit for not hiding these ingredients in any blends.

Ultimately, there are better pre workouts available that contain better ingredients in optimal dosages – meaning you’ll get more bang for your buck with our favorite pre workouts.
