MYPRE Review

Our Rating

About the Product

MYPRE is a pre workout supplement marketed by MyProtein. It comes in 30 serving containers at $29.99, in 5 flavors – Blue Raspberry, Grape, Raspberry Lemonade, Sour Apple, and Watermelon.

Claimed to promote:

  • Energy
  • Strength
  • Endurance
  • Muscle gains

MyProtein promises to only use “scientifically proven ingredients”, so we’ve analyzed its nutrient profile – to see whether MYPRE delivers.

About the Company

MyProtein are a food and supplements company that markets gym products, as well as foods (protein brownies, nut butters, protein cookies etc).

They’re known for offering good value products, but let’s see whether MYPRE contains great ingredients.

The Ingredients and How They Work

Unfortunately, we’re hit with a negative straight away – MYPRE contains 2 proprietary blends.

Why are proprietary blends bad?

These blends are mixtures of numerous ingredients that are shown to you as one quantity – so you’ll never know the exact doses of each ingredient inside.

This is bad, because companies often cut costs by filling them with cheaper, ineffective ingredients. This means, there’ll only be minimal amounts of key pre workout ingredients that will benefit your gym session.

Also, there could be large doses of ingredients that can cause side effects – even a nutrient as safe as Caffeine can cause side effects when overdosed (over 300mg).

We’ve analyzed each ingredient in MYPRE, to see whether it’s effective, or a waste of money.

See for yourself:

Proprietary Amino Blend

You’ll never know the exact doses of each ingredient in this blend – you’re only given the overall quantity (13.4g/13,400mg).

We’ll analyze the key ingredients inside:

BCAAs

This is made up of three branched chain amino acids – Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine. BCAAs has shown to boost muscle protein synthesis (muscle growth), but this isn’t a key feature of a pre workout supplement.

It’s cheap to buy separately, so it’ll be concerning if most of this blend is filled with this ingredient – you’ll never know.

Beta-Alanine

MyProtein has made a mistake here. While Beta-Alanine enhances muscular endurance, it can cause paresthesia in doses over 0.8-1g.

Paresthesia is a tingling on the skin of your face, chest, hands, and extremities – it’s not life threatening, but it’s enough to ruin your gym session.

There are other ingredients that can deliver the same benefit, without the side effect, so Beta-Alanine isn’t vital.

D-Aspartic Acid

We hate to criticize this ingredient, as it’s a key testosterone boosting nutrient. But there’s no place for it in a pre workout supplement.

Think about it. The main benefits of a pre workout should be increased strength, endurance, muscle pumps, and focus – these will help your gym session.

There are already top quality T-Booster supplements on the market, so there’s no need for MYPRE to contain testosterone boosting ingredients.

Citrulline Malate

Now, this is a great addition to any pre workout supplement. Citrulline Malate raises your nitric oxide levels, by turning into L-Arginine in your kidneys. From there, your blood vessels are dilated (vasodilation), resulting in intense muscle pumps while you lift weights.

You should definitely look for this ingredient when searching for a quality pre workout supplement.

Betaine

This is one of the worst ingredients in MYPRE. Studies have shown that it provides no benefits, but comes with a side effect – you might suffer from fishy odors in your breath and body secretions when supplementing Betaine.

What’s worrying, is that Betaine’s part of a proprietary blend – it could be filling most of the ‘Proprietary Amino Blend’ without you knowing. This would mean the majority of MYPRE would be ineffective.

Creatine

MYPRE contains 4 different types of Creatine. This is a concern, as too much can cause side effects like diarrhea and upset stomachs – something you don’t want to suffer from while you’re squatting weights.

We recommend looking for a pre workout that gives you the exact dose of Creatine inside – so you know whether it’s effective, or might cause side effects.

L-Arginine

If MyProtein dosed Citrulline Malate correctly, there’s no need for AAKG. Why?

Well, L-Arginine has a poor absorption rate and is mostly ineffective when orally supplemented – on the other hand, Citrulline Malate has a great absorption rate and turns into L-Arginine in your kidneys.

This shows a lack of research on MyProtein’s part.

Proprietary Blend

MyProtein haven’t been very creatine here, simply naming their second proprietary blend as ‘Proprietary Blend’.

See what’s inside:

Caffeine

This is a key pre workout ingredient as it improves strength, endurance, and cognition – all great benefits to your gym session.

However, it’s a risk when taking it inside a proprietary blend. This is because you don’t know the exact dose of Caffeine inside – servings over 300mg can cause side effects like jitters or energy crashes.

We recommend looking for a pre workout that doesn’t contain any proprietary blends, and a 150-200mg serving of caffeine. This way, you’ll experience Caffeine’s full benefits, without any side effects.

Choline Bitartrate

This molecule is used for it’s ability to boost cognition, and is found in eggs (especially the yolks).

But here’s the problem. Studies have shown that Choline is ineffective in delivering any benefits to your gym session.

Not only that, it’s known to cause side effects, such as sweating, fhisgy body odors, and diarrhea.

MYPRE is missing key pre workout ingredients. Instead, it contains some testosterone boosting ingredients.

Side Effects

There’s numerous ingredients that can cause side effects in MYPRE, such as Beta-Alanine, Betaine, and Choline.

Here’s the list of the potential side effects:

  • Paresthesia – tingling on the skin of your face, chest, hands, and extremities (Beta-Alanine)
  • Fishy odors from breath and body secretions (Betaine & Choline)
  • Jitters (potentially high dose of Caffeine)
  • Energy crashes (potentially high dose of Caffeine)

Pro’s and Con’s

Pro’s

  • Contains Creatine Monohydrate, Caffeine, and Citrulline Malate.

Con’s

  • Can cause numerous side effects.
  • Contains testosterone boosting ingredients, instead of more key pre workout ingredients.
  • Made up of 2 proprietary blends – you don’t know what you’re getting.
  • Not good value for money.

MYPRE Review Conclusion

MyProtein should’ve kept MYPRE as a specialized pre workout supplement, instead of adding T-Boosting ingredients.

Ultimately, the main benefits of a pre workout supplement are improved strength, endurance, muscle pumps, and focus – all benefits that’ll enhance your gym session.

As all of MYPRE’s ingredients are inside proprietary blends, it’s unknown whether the effective ingredients will benefit you, or whether its filled with the ineffective nutrients like Betaine and Choline.

We recommend looking for a pre workout that comes without any risks of side effects, and more key ingredients – such as L-Theanine, Beetroot Extract, and Rhodiola Rosea.
